“28 OCTOBER 1940 — THE DAY GREECE SAID ‘NO’.”
The words printed on the back of this OXI Day shirt are among the most powerful ever spoken in modern Greek history.
On October 28, 1940, Italy demanded entry and occupation of Greek territory. The ultimatum was clear: surrender—or face war.
Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas replied with a single, immortal word:
“ΟΧΙ!” — NO.
That one word echoed across the mountains of Epirus and through the hearts of all Greeks. It sparked Greece’s entry into World War II, where our ancestors stood firm against tyranny and wrote one of the most heroic chapters of the 20th century.
This shirt honors that spirit of defiance, unity, and freedom.
Featuring the Crown of Greece on the sleeve, it symbolizes the nation’s courage and the eternal cry,
“Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος – Freedom or Death.”
“One Word. One Nation. One Immortal ‘ΟΧΙ.’”
